Working in Tay Ninh base camp exposed soldiers to mortar and rocket attack at any time of the day. Most arrived at night when the shooter had a better chance to escape safely. In a fire support base our guns would shoot back at the launching position while troops in base camp could only hide. The passive response of hiding was not a good feeling. I felt better and safer when I was able to take action.
