During the wet season flat rice growing country was akin to a swamp. Because it was so flat rain did not “run off”; it was more like it pooled. I think it was FSB Washington or Crook where there was a hole about 3 inches in diameter in a low spot. We were having a rain that lasted most hours of 3 days and water was backed up everywhere. A steady flow of water drained into this hole during the extended storm and it never filled, never backed up. My guess was that the nearby river flowed below the land surface as well as in its channel.
