Time to Party

Jorge Martinez is accepting control of the formation from Captain Neal and will dismiss it. Jorge was Chief of Firing Battery until he was wounded in early May 1969 at FSB Crook. Mortars wounded 16 battery members in less than two minutes as we returned fire from the first rounds of the assault. Two of six gun crews were hit directly by enemy mortar rounds.

Shined boots without scuffs and neatly pressed uniforms were demanded in Army units no matter the conditions. Our boots had not been polished since they were issued and many men’s uniforms do not fit. We are dressed in our Sunday best but in base camp this look was unacceptable. Being dressed according to regulations defined a person as a REMF (rear echelon mother *ucker); not a field soldier.
