Bob Kelly is heading home and Dave McMahan will drive him to the first leg, Tay Ninh airport. Kelly crossed racial lines more than any person, to choose friends and associates. Leaders did not care for him as he resisted every punishment designed to make him a useful worker or a “good soldier”. His methods forced one leader to supervise him every second because he did only and exactly what he was told; no more. He was busted in rank many times but did not care, in fact he often dared command to do it. He openly used every available drug and looked for those not around.
Kelly was a comedian & entertainer which made him fun to be with but on a detail he was not going to work. He was an example in many ways so a detail could grind to a stop if no superior was watching closely. The Army was not going to change Bob Kelly; he changed the Army.
