Kids begging for anything got very close to our passing trucks. The danger to children was a problem difficult for us to solve. A convoy moved rapidly to make an ambush difficult as a slowed or stopped convoy was exposed and vulnerable. Non-tracked vehicles could not turn around on narrow roads so stopping a lead vehicle using any method was the first step in a textbook ambush. BAD for the convoy! If our vehicle hit a child, stopping to help was taking a big risk a convoy could not afford.
