Most men were shocked at the level of poverty in the small villages that were numerous in our area. From American Indian reservations, Harlem, the Mississippi Delta , back in the hills of Appalachia, Puerto Rico or anywhere in the USA, poverty in rural Vietnam was beyond any they had experienced. Rural Vietnamese in our area likely never saw a Dentist or a Doctor during their lifetime and died from things that would be easily treated in America.
