Ox Cart

Ox, water buffalo or whatever the beasts of burden were moved very slowly. “Vietnam Speed” was ox speed and they were the most common vehicle on rural roads, except walking humans and bicycles. Vietnamese workers in base camp operated at a pace like the oxen but kept going and going and going. The South Vietnamese Army operated at “Vietnam Speed” and it caused endless frustration during proposed joint operations. Our cultures and vehicles operated at vastly different speed and pace.
