Mama San had no problem being in this picture. I was surprised by the small stature of the Vietnamese. I do not remember any fat individuals and saw only 1 man that equaled my 5′ 9″ height. Their toughness and endurance seemed out of place in what looked to me like children’s bodies. It took a tough person to live as a Vietnamese farmer or laborer in Tay Ninh Province. Around December 1968 the local fighters (Viet Cong) were replaced by North Vietnamese Army soldiers with no (few?) local connections. Their supplies must have come from North Vietnam as the locals had little extra of anything to contribute.
