Second section (gun) building a parapit at FSB Crook.

The first thing we would do in a new position is get the gun ‘laid’, that is get it calibrated to be able to shoot together with the rest of the battery, and give effective support where and when it was needed. Then there would be brush to clear, foxholes to be dug, sandbags filled, and the truck to be unloaded.

When we took a break, I snapped this picture. In the background, are some trucks hauling dirt, so that we can build our earthworks around the gun. There was a bulldozer there too, knocking down trees, and throwing up a berm around the perimeter of the new base. Those are the engineers, and they were a great asset to all aspects of the war.
