The route from Buell III to base camp went through Tay Ninh City. Urban travel was much safer than rural, and stores selling ice and cold drinks dotted the highway. Purchasing local goods was forbidden but smart supply people bought them anyway. Ice and mail were the most desired supplies in a convoy and brought joy when they arrived. Ice made from local water was considered undrinkable but would cool canned drinks before evaporating. We rapidly spun the soda can on local ice to cool the contents. Cold anything was most welcome.
