By removing my glasses for a picture I was hoping to look more handsome. I had ‘coke bottle lenses’ since age 8. My vision was far below Army minimum standards, but here I am. Seeing what I looked like while buying eyeglass frames without corrective lenses in place was impossible. I needed to be closer than 12 inches to see myself in focus in the mirror. Difficult to get a perspective on my face from 12 inches. Photographs were the only way I could see myself at distance.
