Strangely, seeing the “Doughnut Dollies” set off a couple of men that had recieved “Dear John” letters recently. Dear John is a term for your woman at home dumping you with a letter and they were a fact of life. Being dumped always hurts but seemed worse because the person was fighting for their country. It took about 7 days each way for a letter and that is 10 lifetimes in a 24/7 life. The dumpee had no way to fight the dump in a timely way; we did not have phone service.
