This looks like a post card sent from vacation. The reality was brutal heat, near 100% humidity and a variety of bugs that extract a toll from the traveler. Those rice paddies were a reproduction factory for mosquitoes with an attitude and the equipment to draw blood. Nets, spray and flailing at them did not prevent their nonstop feasting and torture. Most of the diseases the Army gave me shots to prevent were mosquito-borne.
