Gift from Home
Race was the same pervasive issue that it was back in the states. Food is bonding 3 whites, 3 blacks, 1 openly gay, all from differnet states. We worked in different subsections of the battery but became a group to consume these goodies from home. DelMonte peaches, saltine crackers and tuna are vanishing. This food was a welcome change from the 1943 C-rations we ate most meals. Some family in the USA had made the Christmas season bright for us.
