Dry Paddy

«

Soil in this soaked condition sucked in each foot and did not let go easily. Operating in these conditions was hard work at a very slow pace; running was nearly impossible. As the paddy dried it became a launch pad for rockets. A crude timer (C-Ration can with a small bottom hole that slowly leaked the water from the can, one contact on the outside bottom and the other floating on the water) allowed the enemy to be long gone when the rocket launched. The rocket “tube” was a flat board, angled by anchoring the board to the paddy bottom and the dyke side with the rocket flat, fuse up, on the board.
