Direct Hit

The Vietnamese enemy were not able to precisely hit targets with rockets. Often they were launched lying on the ground which gave little control to their final destination. Rockets were used mostly against large area targets such as Tay Ninh base camp. Our fire support bases were small and not so easily hit by a rocket but we did have one daytime rocket and mortar attack. The rockets were bedded on a 105mm artillery round shipping box top, leaned at an angle against the dry rice paddy dyke. Every part of the firing mechanism came from American trash. Two were launched that missed our base and the others found by a squad looking around trying to solve the mystery of 2 daytime rockets landing nearby.
I doubt this medical facility was targeted, it was just standing in the wrong place that day.
