The bunker in the lower left center has a major malfunction; one wall has been turned into a pile of sandbags.

A 2.5 ton truck pulling our water trailer is entering the firebase from the road from Tay Ninh. No part of the road is paved and this dirt road turns into a cow path passing through rain forest a few miles west. Our part of the road was almost impassable for wheeled vehicles during the wet season, so moving west was for tracked vehicles only.

Vietnamese capitalists set up shop outside our gate selling cold drinks, pornographic pictures, drugs and their daughters or sisters for a romp in the rice paddy. Every base commander tried to shut them down but the best they achieved was moving them down the road for a few moments. The locals would not be stopped when there was money to be made.
