Barbed Wire

The second line of defense around at FSB was rolled barbed wire (concertina) supported by metal posts. Trip flares were tied to the barbed wire and they lit when someone got tangled in or moved the wire. A single strand of barbed wire 3 inches above the ground was pulled tight around randomly placed stakes and was our last line of defense. Sneaking through this maze without being detected was very difficult and done only by enemy soldiers with special training called “sappers”.
