1st Sgt. Jones

»

1st Sgt. Jones spoils a carton of C-rations by using them as a chair. FDC attracted commanders because we had shade in the day and light at night. Sgt. Jones disliked me soon after I arrived at the battery. The soon to depart Captain Knox was ending his tour by staying in the FDC bunker most of the day (safest place in our battery) and liked to talk. Neither my boss, Ralph Thompson, or Sgt. Jones could break in and assign details to anyone talking to Captain Knox; he was boss. I recognized this and tried to keep Knox talking to me so as to avoid work details (like burning shit). Sgt. Jones took revenge as soon as Captain Knox left and kept me hopping with work assignments. He succeeded until he was medevac’d sick from a mystery illness and never returned. Ralph took up his leadership on assigning me work detail punishment.
