Farming
The area we operated in was flat and mostly devoted to growing rice. All work was done by hand. This included irrigation, planting, post-planting care, harvest, threshing, and hauling it home. Most of the work was done by women, children and old or crippled men. Healthy men were in some fighting force and ripe for an ID check if we found a man that was not. I came from wheat farm country and knew the hard word of farming but we had motors to power equipment while the Vietnamese had only people power. In the wet season green was the dominant color while the dry season was basic brown with a dust haze. It was ALWAYS HOT!
