Ammo Preparation

A gun crew removes 105mm rounds from boxes of two, takes the single round from a fiber shipping container, removes other protective items and inspects the shell for shipping damage. The round is fairly safe until fused, so many gun crews removed the rounds by splitting the box lid with an axe. Some commanders tried to stop this but the amount of boxes to open each day dictated that the fastest method be used, and that was the axe.
